February is known as the month of love, but the OTT medium is mixing some other flavours in it as well this time. From a tale of adultery to a complicated relationship between teacher-student, this month the production houses are going all out to bring in some diverse content and I am loving it. While I am extremely excited about these upcoming projects, I thought of sharing my watch list here as well.
Here are the exciting projects coming in FebruaryMithya by Applause Entertainment
I loved the trailer of Mithya that gave me a glimpse into the complicated equation between a teacher-student duo, played by Huma Qureshi and debutant Avantika Dassani. While the former plays the role of Juhi, a Hindi literature university professor, Avantika plays her student, Rhea Rajguru. What begins as a matter of academic deception, snowballs into a psychological combat between the two, as neither are willing to back down. The intense trailer outlines what seems to be a dark narrative with twists and turns. The show drops on Zee5 on 18 February and this offering of Applause Entertainment, needs to be on your watch list this month.
Gehraiyaan by Dharma Productions and Viacom 18 Studios
This one I am really looking forward to as the trailer of Shakun Batra’s Gehraiyaan, starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa has left me wanting for more. This tale of modern-day relationships dealing with the theme of adultery has Deepika taking on the role of Alisha, who engages in the act of infidelity with Zain (played by Siddhant), her sister’s fiance. The film is premiering on 11 February on Amazon Prime Video, and I am sure this intense drama will be a topic of discussion for a long time even after its release.
The Great Indian Murder by Ajay Devgn and Priti Sinha
While the above projects are yet to hit the screens, the one that has already released, The Great Indian Murder, has had me in awe of it ever since I began watching it. Based on the book Six Suspects, the show features Pratik Gandhi and Richa Chadha. And as these two investigating officers get on the journey of solving a high profile murder case, which has six suspects, it makes for a thrilling ride. The series is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia.
Rocket Boys by Roy Kapur Films and Emmay Entertainment
Another one of the shows that has already released and won my heart is Rocket Boys. This period drama about the birth of Indian space program is based on the lives of Homi J Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai, played by Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh respectively. While the story in itself is really inspiring to say the least, it’s the acting of these two talents that makes it all the more appealing and intriguing. If you haven’t watched it yet, you must, as it is streaming on Sony LIV.
Bestseller by Alchemy Productions LLP
One other project that I am totally looking forward to is Mithun Chakraborty and Shruti Haasan’s web debut, Bestseller. The show’s trailer was dropped yesterday and it is all things interesting. The mystery of a troll behind a genius novelist, that puts the lives of everyone around him, including the muse of his next story, at risk, has just increased my curiosity to uncover the truth. Also featuring some great talents like Arjan Bajwa, Satyajeet Dubey, Gauahar Khan and Sonalee Kulkarni, this show is directed by Mukul Abhyankar and will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 18 February.
