The whole entertainment industry worldwide witnessed quite a startling event today when Will Smith punched comedian Chris Rock on live TV at Oscars 2022. The latter made a joke about the former’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s appearance which didn’t go down well with him. I am one of those people who are still questioning whether what happened was real or staged, but whatever the case may be, the whole incident did raise a question about the lines that should be drawn in comedy.
Sometimes people do get offended by things that are said in the name of comedy, but sometimes it might happen that things are presented as such, when in reality they aren’t as serious. Today, Varun Dhawan was at a press conference for IIFA Awards 2022, where he was asked about the same, and the actor presented his stance on it.
He said,
“People do get offended but you got to be very mindful that in such shows, it’s the writers who are writing the script and sometimes they even pray for people to get offended as it makes for a moment.”
Talking about the minute scrutiny that celebrities have to undergo for whatever they say, the actor insists that it has always been there, and it just got amplified during the pandemic. But now with the upcoming IIFA Awards, the actor just wants to bring the good times back.
Varun insists,
“I think it’s always been there, it just has got amplified due to social media. We are human beings and we do get sensitive, and after having gone through the time that we all have, we would be sensitive. But the main thing is that we are here to have a good time and we will try to approach with that energy.”
Varun is indeed quite excited about IIFA and one of the things that he is looking forward to the most is to interact with his fans.
The actor shares,
“It’s been a while since I have got to interact with my fans and talk to them. I stay right in front of Juhu beach and I used to go there during the lockdown. I would find only a handful of people there but that was the time when I got to actually interact with them. Usually you take selfies and go, but here I got the chance to speak to the people and ask them what’s actually going on in their lives. That’s a relationship I want to have with my fans. The high of fame is only for five-six years, your life has to be more than that. Just like how Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) ji does at his house where he comes out and waves to his fans.”
