Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Badhaai Do has just hit the screens yesterday and it’s garnering a lot of appreciation. From the concept to the narrative and the performances of these actors – all of it is being loved. The film revolves around this couple who are in a lavender marriage. Bhumi is on cloud 9 after all the appreciation and the actress took to Instagram to post a thank you note to the audience and the entire team of the film.

But it’s not just Badhaai Do, where the actress has showed us a different side to her. It’s so commendable how Bhumi has only chosen movies with out-of-the-box concepts ever since her debut. Most of her films have been conversation-starters. It’s not often that we see an actress piling on kilos for her debut film without the apprehension of not being accepted or being stereotyped. Bhumi wooed me completely with her performance in Dum Laga Ke Haisha itself and there’s no looking back since then.
She shattered this image in her second film itself – Toilet : Ek Prem Katha which again was such a gutsy film to take on. I clearly remember that while promoting the film, Akshay Kumar admitted that this was such a difficult role for an actress to take and kudos to Bhumi for taking this up. Post that, with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Lust Stories, Sonchiriya and Saand Ki Aankh – the girl further reinstated the fact that she walks on the lesser-known and lesser-taken path.
She also dished out such a stunning performance in Alankrita Shrivastava’s Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare alongside Konkona Sen Sharma. In between all this, there was Pati Patni Aur Woh which added the variety. But while all her characters have been so different from each other, the one thing which remained a constant I believe – was the confidence in all the characters she portrayed. These were all strong women, who knew what they wanted! That perhaps is, a similarity which ran through in all these films.
